The Hartford Courant - Murphy: Warn U.S. Manufacturers that Buy American Rules are Toothless

February 13th 2012 (OXFORD, CT): Bolstering "Buy American" purchasing rules has been a signature issue of Rep. Chris Murphy, D-5th District for two years, and Monday, the Congressman announced his latest push at the small factory of the man who had an idea for the bill.

This idea, however, is a warning - it would not help U.S. companies gain a greater share of federal government contracts.

The New Haven Register - Un-fair trade? Buy American Act rings hollow to Dewey Manufacturing in Oxford

December 17th 2011 (OXFORD, CT): When Dewey Manufacturing bid on a contract in July to supply the Transportation Safety Administration with pistol cleaning kits for the agency's federal air marshals, the Oxford company had every reason to suspect it would be successful.

Four years earlier, the company had successfully bid on a contract with the same agency and had provided 10,000 of the kits. But this time around, owner George Dewey's company was beaten out by a Virginia company that he claims is an American company in name only.

The Hartford Courant - Oxford Company Loses Government Bid to Apparent Importer

November 22nd 2011 (OXFORD, CT): ...these pistol kits were for federal air marshals in the employ of the Transportation Security Administration, and those kinds of bids, like those of the military, are supposed to go to companies that fulfill the work in the United States, with at least 50 percent of the product from American suppliers.

While technically I-Tek is a U.S. company - it is based in Hampton, Va. - the Internet trail of I-Tek, also known as Iris Kim, raise the question of whether it is bidding on government contracts of all kinds, and then importing the goods from Asia.
